Candle Care 101

Before Lighting
- Trim the wick to 1/4 inch (about 6mm) before every burn. This prevents excessive soot, mushrooming, and uneven burning.
- Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Keep away from drafts, vents, children, pets, and anything flammable (at least 12 inches/30cm clearance).
- Remove any debris (wick trimmings, matches) from the wax pool.
First Burn (Most Important!)
- Allow the candle to burn until the entire top surface melts evenly (memory burn)—usually 2–4 hours depending on jar size.
This prevents tunneling (wax sinking in the middle) and ensures even burning for the candle's life.
During Burning
- Burn for no more than 4 hours at a time (2–3 hours ideal for best performance).
- For smaller candles (e.g., 2–4 oz), limit to 2 hours to avoid overheating the jar.
- Re-center the wick (if needed) while the wax is still molten for even burning.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Extinguishing
- Use a candle snuffer to gently put out the flame—this minimizes smoke and wax splatter.
- Avoid blowing out (can cause hot wax to splash) or using water.
When to Stop Burning
- Discontinue use when about 1/4–1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom—for safety and to prevent glass overheating/cracking.
Troubleshooting
- Tunneling or uneven surface? Gently melt the top layer with a hairdryer, then absorb excess wax with a paper towel.
- Wick keeps going out? Ensure proper trim, remove debris, or fix tunneling.
- Sooting or smoking? Trim wick shorter and avoid drafts.
Repurpose Your Jar
Give your beautiful glass jar a second life! Once 1/4 inch of wax remains:
- Freeze the jar overnight to shrink the wax, then pop it out.
- Or pour hot (not boiling) water over cooled wax to loosen.
Wash with warm soapy water—perfect for storage, plants, or decor!
Safety First
- Never move a burning or hot candle.
- Burn within sight—extinguish before leaving the room or sleeping.
- If the flame becomes too high or smoky, extinguish immediately and trim the wick.
